Local SEO for Dubai Businesses: Google Business Profile Guide 2026

The short answer

To show up in Google Maps and local results in Dubai, claim and verify a Google Business Profile, pick the most accurate primary category, fill in every field truthfully, keep your name, address and phone number consistent everywhere, and earn genuine reviews on a steady schedule. Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot change distance, but you control most of the other two.

Most Dubai businesses I look at have a Google Business Profile that was created years ago, half filled in, and never touched again. That is a missed opportunity, because for anything a customer wants nearby or wants soon, the map result is often the first thing they see, before your website or your ads.

This is the practical version: what Google actually rewards, the setup in the order I would do it, and the mistakes that get profiles suspended or ignored.

How Google decides who appears locally

Google's own documentation explains local ranking with three factors: relevance, distance and prominence.

Google also states that you cannot pay to improve your local ranking. That is worth remembering when someone offers to "guarantee" you the top spot in Maps.

Step 1: Claim and verify the right profile

Search for your business name on Google Maps first. If a profile already exists, claim it rather than creating a duplicate, because duplicates split your reviews and confuse both Google and customers.

Verification is what unlocks control over the profile. Google currently offers methods such as video, phone, email or postcard depending on the business, and significant edits to your name, address or category can trigger verification again. Do this properly: use the details that match your real premises and trade licence.

Are you eligible?

Google's guidelines require a business that makes in-person contact with customers during stated hours, either at a location or by travelling to them. If you serve customers at their homes or offices, such as renovation, maintenance or cleaning companies, you can set up as a service-area business, hide your address, and list the areas you serve. Do not use a virtual office or a borrowed address just to appear on the map. That is a common reason profiles are suspended.

Step 2: Get the core details exactly right

Step 3: Build the profile out

A verified profile with only a name and phone number competes poorly against one that shows the business properly.

  1. Write a clear description. Say what you do, who you do it for and where, in plain language. Do not paste in promotional offers or phone numbers.
  2. List your services. Add each service you offer with a short, factual description.
  3. Add real photos. Your team, premises, vehicles and finished work. Use photos you own, and replace weak ones over time.
  4. Use posts and updates sparingly. An occasional update on an offer or a completed project keeps the profile current. It will not rescue a weak profile, but it signals that the business is active.
  5. Turn on messaging and calls only if you can answer. An unanswered chat is worse than none.

Step 4: Reviews are the engine

Reviews are the part of local SEO that most affects both ranking and whether someone actually picks you. Google confirms review count and score influence local results, and customers read them before calling.

How to ask

Send a direct link to your review page right after the job or appointment finishes, by WhatsApp or email, while the experience is fresh. In Dubai, WhatsApp is usually the channel customers respond to fastest. Ask everyone, not just people you expect to be happy.

What not to do

Google's policies do not allow buying reviews, offering discounts or gifts in exchange for reviews, or filtering so only happy customers are invited to review. These practices tend to get caught, and the penalty can be removal of reviews or restrictions on the profile. A slower, honest stream of reviews beats a burst that looks manufactured.

How to reply

Reply to every review, positive or negative, within a few days. Thank people by name, keep it short, and for complaints offer to fix the issue offline. Your replies are read by future customers deciding whether to trust you, so write them for that audience rather than for the reviewer.

Step 5: Make your website support the profile

Your profile and your site should tell the same story. Your name, address and phone number should match exactly across the website footer, contact page, social profiles and any directory you list on. Inconsistent details make it harder for Google to be confident which business you are.

Create a dedicated page for each main service you want to be found for, and mention the areas you serve in natural language. This also supports your visibility in AI answers, which pull from the same trusted sources; I covered that in how to get cited by ChatGPT and AI Overviews in Dubai.

Local SEO or ads: which first?

They do different jobs. Local SEO is slower to build but cheap to keep once it is working. Ads are immediate but stop when the budget does. For most service businesses I would set up the profile properly first because it costs only time, then add paid search on top; the trade-offs are in Google Ads vs Meta Ads in Dubai. If you want the whole pipeline, from being found to being called, my approach to that is in what a lead generation specialist in Dubai actually does.

A 30-minute monthly checklist

  1. Check the profile is verified and shows no warnings or suggested edits you did not make.
  2. Confirm hours, phone number and website link are correct.
  3. Reply to every new review.
  4. Send review requests to the last month's customers who have not yet reviewed.
  5. Add two or three new photos of recent work.
  6. Review the services list and remove or add anything that changed.
  7. Search your main service and area on your phone and see who appears above you and why.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to show up in Google Maps in Dubai?

Claim and verify your Google Business Profile, choose the most accurate primary category, fill in every field truthfully, and keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere online. Then collect genuine reviews steadily. Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence, and a complete, verified profile is the starting point for all three.

Do I need a shop or office to get a Google Business Profile?

You need a real business with in-person contact with customers, either at a location or by travelling to them. Service-area businesses, such as home renovation or cleaning companies, can hide their address and list the areas they serve. A virtual office or a mailbox used only to get a listing is not something Google allows.

Can I offer customers a discount for leaving a Google review?

No. Google's policy does not allow offering incentives in exchange for reviews, even when the review would be honest. You may ask every customer for a review, and you should ask all of them, not only the ones you expect to be happy.

Should I reply to negative Google reviews?

Yes, calmly and briefly. Replies are visible to everyone considering your business. Acknowledge the problem, offer to resolve it offline, and never argue. If a review breaks Google's policies, such as spam or fake content, you can flag it for removal, but a review that is simply unfavourable does not qualify.

Do I need an Arabic version of my profile?

Your profile should match the language your customers search in. For most Dubai service businesses that means clear English with Arabic added where your customers use it, for example in the business description or replies to Arabic-speaking reviewers. Do not stuff extra keywords into the business name to do this.

How long does local SEO take to work?

A newly completed profile can start appearing within days of verification, but improving how high you appear depends on competition in your category and area. Reviews and consistent information build over months, so treat it as an ongoing habit rather than a one-off setup.

The short version

Local SEO is not a trick. It is an accurate, complete profile, a narrow and honest category, consistent details and a steady flow of real reviews. Do those things and keep them current, and you will beat the many Dubai competitors who set up a profile once and forgot it.
